Simple Man

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lyrics | Lynyrd Skynyrd lyrics - Simple Man lyrics

Simple Man lyrics
Songwriters: Van Zant, Ron; Rossington, Gary;

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you some sunny day

Oh, take your time don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
Go find a woman you'll find love
And don't forget son there is someone up above

And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son if you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied

And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son if you can? Oh yes, I will

Boy, don't you worry you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied

And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son if you can?

Baby be a simple, be a simple man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man.

Could You Cash My Check?

#2 August 30, 2011 at 7:27 am
#1AMERICAN commented:

President Obama walks into the Bank of America to cash a check. As he
approaches the cashier he says “Good morning Ma’am, could you please cash this
check for me”?

Cashier: “It would be my pleasure sir. Could you please show me your ID”?

Obama: “Truthfully, I did not bring my ID with me as I didn’t think there was
any need to. I am President Barrack Obama, the president of the United States of
America!!!!”

Cashier: “Yes sir, I know who you are, but with all the regulations,
monitoring, of the banks because of impostors and forgers, etc I must insist on
seeing ID”

Obama: “Just ask anyone here at the bank who I am and they will tell you.
Everybody knows who I am”

Cashier: “I am sorry Mr. President but these are the bank rules and I must
follow them.”

Obama: “I am urging you please to cash this check”

Cashier: “Look Mr.. President this is what we can do: One day Tiger Woods came
into the bank without ID. To prove he was Tiger Woods he pulled out his putting
iron and made a beautiful shot across the bank into a cup.

With that shot we knew him to be Tiger Woods and cashed his check. Another
time, Andre Agassi came in without ID. He pulled out his tennis racquet and made
a fabulous shot whereas the tennis ball landed in my cup.

With that shot we cashed his check. So, Mr. President, what can you do to
prove that it is you, and only you, as the President of the United States?”

Obama stood there thinking, and thinking and finally says: “Honestly, my mind
is a total blank~~~there is nothing that comes to my mind. I can’t think of a
single thing”

Cashier: “Will that be large or small bills, Mr. President?”

Pride and Joy

Well you've heard about love givin' sight to the blind
My baby's lovin' cause the sun to shine
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

Yeah I love my baby, heart and soul
Love like ours won't never grow old
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

Yeah, I love my lady, she's long and lean
You mess with her, you'll see a man get mean
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

Well I love my baby, like the finest wine
Stick with her until the end of time
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

Yeah I love my baby, heart and soul
Love like ours won't never grow old
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

If you're down and out and you feel real hurt
Come on over to the place where I live
And all your loneliness I'll try to soothe
I'll play the blues for you
Don't be afraid come on in
You might run across some of your old friends

All your loneliness I gotta soothe
I'll play the blues for you
I got no big name and I ain't no big star
I play the blues for you on my guitar
All your loneliness I'll try to soothe
I 'll play the blues for you

5000 years ago, Moses said to Israel, “Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you into the Promised Land.” Then welfare was introduced, Roosevelt said, “Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, light up a camel, this IS the Promised Land.” Today, the government has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels and mortgaged the Promised Land to China.

Crosby Stills Nash & Young - Teach Your Children

TEACH YOUR CHILDREN

You, who are on the road must have a code that you can live by.
And so become yourself because the past is just a good bye.
Teach your children well, their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams, the one they picked, the one you're known by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

And you, of the tender years can't know the fears that your elders grew by,
And so please help them with your years, they seek the truth before they can die.
Teach your parents well, their children's hell will slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams, the one they picked, the one you're known by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

The TRUETT LOLLIS Trio

It was almost nine o'clock on a Friday evening several months ago when I was sitting at the bar ( Sidelines- Kennesaw ) having had a nice Rueben sandwich with my iced-cold draft of Icehouse, of course. I had just paid my tab and noticed as I pulled away from the stool that a band had come in and set up the drum kit - adjusted the speakers, mikes and guitars. I wasn't ready for what I was about to encounter. I had no interest in any Headbanging or Rapp-Krapp -

When young Truett Lollis first gave up a little warm up riff and Theron Peterson filled his hands with those sticks then Jonathan Norwood came on with the bass guitar - The world stopped !!! I kid you not !!!

Needless to say, I sat back down and I do believe I was one of the last guys to leave this place three sets and 5 hours later.

I was speechless!
It was unbelievable, inspiring to witness this and to be transported in this way to a place I cannot take myself.

I am not a musician by any means, but I know what moves me, I appreciate talent when I see it, I know what touches me and grabs me. This music takes me to "THAT PLACE" I cannot take myself - so with that said I say, "Thanks for the ride."

After the first short break young Truett Lollis walked past me, I grabbed him and put my arms around him, looked him in the eye and told him that he had been blessed with a great gift. Terrific stage presence and powerful.

I was hooked and have been following them ever since.

Since that night I have been introduced to some of the finest blues musicians around.

“You can’t separate the person and his music - especially with this man. When you are in his presence, you can’t help but smile. You can’t help but be happy and joyful and when he plays it’s the same thing. If you were blind and you heard him play, you would just be so joyful!” - Mudcat Dudack

Eddie Tigner plays the piano with a smooth, strong base that rolls along below the weave of the soulful notes of the upper registers. He is a musician who can move an audience from the swing of Heartbreak – It’s hurtin’ me to the rocking sound of Shake Rattle and Roll. For Tigner, the piano is not just an instrument; it’s a place to be.

The Quote of the Decade

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

Jim Smith 4/28/2010

Here's to Truett Lollis, and all the rest
If he can play like Steve Ray Vaughn, that's a pretty good start. If he happens to have a name like Truett Lollis, how can the kid miss?

My friends -- it was a father and son reunion, actually -- visited Northside Tavern the other night in Atlanta to check out the music. Unscheduled, but on the stage at some point, was a 19-year-old shredder who played an amazing flourish of electric blues ala SRV. The sort of jaw-dropping good that would make a house band guitarist wilt.

Now here's the cosmic connection. While the kid was playing his Strat, the father and the son individually recalled a visit to a guitar store, maybe six or seven years earlier. There was a young kid in the store, barely a teenager if that, sitting on an oversized amp playing Stevie Ray Vaughn like there was no tomorrow.

(We realize that SRV is one of them most emulated guitarists on the planet and that there are, conservatively, 2,500 snot-nosed kids plugged in at this very moment trying be be Just Like Stevie. And hundreds more will be home from school in a few hours.)

The kid in the tavern was a more polished player, for sure. Six years of practicing should burnish a few deeper grooves. The music was the same, and the facial expressions and gyrations were recognizable. Father turned to son. There was no doubt. Truett Lollis has made it to the stage. Get at taste by clicking here.

Where he goes from here -- and all those others like him -- nobody knows. MySpace and YouTube are littered with hundreds of blistering guitar solos by kids you never heard of, and probably never will. Can they learn to channel all that raw talent through their heart and soul and have it come out as real as a Georgia rainstorm? At least this kid has a name. Remember it, just in case:

Family-Placed Death Notice

Bett Pierce Allen, 74, of Alpharetta, passed away early Monday morning, June 30, after a lengthy illness in North Fulton Regional Hospital. She had returned to the Atlanta area with her husband of 57 years, Bill Allen. Before she retired in 1999, Mrs. Allen had her own therapeutic practice, Program Plus, in Glen Saint Mary, FL. She was chosen by her peer group, NAADAC as Counselor of the Year with emphasis on Lifetime Achievement. She was internationally certified in addiction counseling. She was also a Fellow of the American Clinical Hypnosis Institute and certified in Criminal Justice counseling. Mrs. Allen studied under Virginia Satir, Dr. Stanley Gitlow, Dr. Jokichi Takumine and other pioneers in family therapy. She was on the leading edge of recognizing damage done to offspring and spouses of addicts, and the growth of what is now familiar as "Adult Child" therapy. Dr. Marilyn Volker of Miami University said today: "Bett Allen was a Star!!! Now, she is a STAR!!!". Mrs. Allen devoted the first 25 years of her married life to homemaking, raising three sons, Michael, Keith and Victor, now deceased. She also enthusiastically accompanied her writer husband on magazine assignments. She began her career as a therapist in the late 1970's in Baker County, FL, and then Jacksonville. She was a graduate of O'Keefe and Sacred Heart High School and married in 1946. Her death came on her 57th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her husband, Bill, and her sons, Michael Rece Allen and Keith Patrick Allen, both of Alpharetta; her brother, James Franklin Pierce of Centerpoint, TX; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the home of Bill Allen Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 3, at 11:00 a.m. at the Roswell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike McCrum officiating. Friends are arranging a second memorial service in Jacksonville. Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd., 770-993-4811.

Dear Bill, The time and place for the service here was not in the paper until yesterday morning. Therefore many people did not know the when and where and the group was small. The tears and laughter and kudos were not small----they were expialidousis. In our hearts it will always be Bill`nBett. It gladdens our hearts to know that the music will never end between bill`nbett. It lifts my spirits to imagine how you were hopelessly smitten and your heart was filled with love when you first laid eyes on that beautiful, blue eyed, southern spitfire.------and how she was swept away by your dashing romantic ways. You gave to her one of the most cherished gifts desired by a woman. She told me many times how grateful she was to know that she was loved dearly by one man----day after day, after day and forever. I know no one who has changed as many lives as bill`nbett. I feel very privileged to have known my Bett, who is the best example of living out the greatest commandment, LOVE ONE ANOTHER. If I can follow in her shadow and touch even a few lives as she has touched so many, I will feel blessed with her spirit alive in me. Give my love to your boys and tell them that Bett expressed so many times how happy she was to be near them, their wives, and her grandchildren. Love, louise

General Notes:

Victor was an entertainer, storyteller, counselor, golfer and teacher.

Victor was physically unwell for all of his 48 years with us, and in spite of this, he

multiplied the five God given talents of sight, touch, smell, hearing and taste.

Never a dilletante, he involved himself in pursuits passionately. He was an accomplished entertainer from an early age, a fierce baseball, chess and billiards competitor. He was a horseman, and dog trainer. Victor was a scratch golfer, a marksman of note, an avid hunter and fisherman. Without formal training, he mastered several instruments and had a fine voice which he used to mimic some "pop" stars. He became an opera aficianado, with an overwhelming preoccupation with Luciano Pavarotti. Victor was a Life Scout. He travelled in Greece, Italy, Switzerland, France, England, Scotland.

Deepening disability and surgical procedures left him in declining health for the past several years (1998-2000), but his spirit was unflagging and he had many internet friends and contacts. His two great passions in his last years were The Atlanta Braves and Pavarotti.
