KATIE MARTIN - WOW !!!

Katie Martin

Performing across the Southeast since 2006, Katie Martin's unique blend of blues, folk, and soul mesmerizes audiences in a way that has to be seen to understand. Her agelessly soulful vocals soar effortlessly above a rich propulsion of acoustic blues guitar reminiscent of Muddy Waters combined with the beautiful folk guitar of James Taylor, all performed with the honest intensity of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Seeing Katie Martin perform is an experience like no other, and her refreshing individuality is one that leaves a lasting impression long after the stage has grown silent. Her debut album "Memories" is currently underway at Haney Records, and is set for release in the Spring of 2012. "Working with Katie Martin is an absolute pleasure. Her natural instincts and honest delivery make for some of the most heartfelt tracks I've had the privilege of recording. The most amazing part to me is that she sings so well that she needs no pitch correction or editing. And, as many singers and producers alike know fully well, this is a very rare trait these days. Needless to say, she is an absolute force of nature both on the stage and in the studio, and I'm honored to be a part of her journey." Chris Haney, Haney Records

Leatherwood also played for many years in the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.
This bass dates back to the 1920s.

I have said it before, people, and I will say it again and again: We are so blessed to have the kind of talent we have in Georgia, and to have the local venues where we can see them.

I was very mindful of that last night when we went to the newly reopened Darwin's Burgers and Blues in Marietta to hear the Truett Lollis Trio. My friend Elizabeth Tull, who is not only one of the best drummers I know but has excellent taste in music, has been after me for weeks to go hear Truett Lollis perform. Elizabeth has never steered me wrong, and I've been anxious to visit Darwin's, because when I was first getting into the blues scene I kept hearing about the place but I never got to go before it closed. So last night Ken and I happily took ourselves off to accomplish both goals at once. And I am so glad we did!

First of all, Darwin's is a small club, but last night it had a very enthusiastic, packed crowd. The club is a labor of love for its blues-loving owner, Ernie Lodato, and it shows. Before the show started we ordered burgers and my designated driver had a diet Coke, but I had a Long Island Iced Tea. (We all know I did that just so I could tell you all what the drinks were like, right?) Ok, so the Long Island Iced Tea was perfect, and so were our burgers. You choose your own condiments and toppings and  we got the ones with wing sauce and Ken got every available topping on his. They were definitely worth the $8 (including fries or tator tots) we paid.

Simple Man

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lyrics | Lynyrd Skynyrd lyrics - Simple Man lyrics

Simple Man lyrics
Songwriters: Van Zant, Ron; Rossington, Gary;

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you some sunny day

Oh, take your time don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
Go find a woman you'll find love
And don't forget son there is someone up above

And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son if you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied

And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son if you can? Oh yes, I will

Boy, don't you worry you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied

And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son if you can?

Baby be a simple, be a simple man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man.

Could You Cash My Check?

#2 August 30, 2011 at 7:27 am
#1AMERICAN commented:

President Obama walks into the Bank of America to cash a check. As he
approaches the cashier he says “Good morning Ma’am, could you please cash this
check for me”?

Cashier: “It would be my pleasure sir. Could you please show me your ID”?

Obama: “Truthfully, I did not bring my ID with me as I didn’t think there was
any need to. I am President Barrack Obama, the president of the United States of
America!!!!”

Cashier: “Yes sir, I know who you are, but with all the regulations,
monitoring, of the banks because of impostors and forgers, etc I must insist on
seeing ID”

Obama: “Just ask anyone here at the bank who I am and they will tell you.
Everybody knows who I am”

Cashier: “I am sorry Mr. President but these are the bank rules and I must
follow them.”

Obama: “I am urging you please to cash this check”

Cashier: “Look Mr.. President this is what we can do: One day Tiger Woods came
into the bank without ID. To prove he was Tiger Woods he pulled out his putting
iron and made a beautiful shot across the bank into a cup.

With that shot we knew him to be Tiger Woods and cashed his check. Another
time, Andre Agassi came in without ID. He pulled out his tennis racquet and made
a fabulous shot whereas the tennis ball landed in my cup.

With that shot we cashed his check. So, Mr. President, what can you do to
prove that it is you, and only you, as the President of the United States?”

Obama stood there thinking, and thinking and finally says: “Honestly, my mind
is a total blank~~~there is nothing that comes to my mind. I can’t think of a
single thing”

Cashier: “Will that be large or small bills, Mr. President?”

Pride and Joy

Well you've heard about love givin' sight to the blind
My baby's lovin' cause the sun to shine
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

Yeah I love my baby, heart and soul
Love like ours won't never grow old
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

Yeah, I love my lady, she's long and lean
You mess with her, you'll see a man get mean
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

Well I love my baby, like the finest wine
Stick with her until the end of time
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

Yeah I love my baby, heart and soul
Love like ours won't never grow old
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

I'll Play the Blues for You !
<iframe width="420" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wdDRCIEEZ3w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If you're down and out and you feel real hurt
Come on over to the place where I live
And all your loneliness I'll try to soothe
I'll play the blues for you
Don't be afraid come on in
You might run across some of your old friends

All your loneliness I gotta soothe
I'll play the blues for you
I got no big name and I ain't no big star
I play the blues for you on my guitar
All your loneliness I'll try to soothe
I 'll play the blues for you
